Arnold Wehr

Arnold Wehr, 87, of Batesville, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in Indianapolis at St. Francis Hospital. He was born on June 5, 1935 to parents Wilbur and Clara (Drees) Wehr in Laughery Township, Ripley County at their home.

Arnold was a 1953 graduate of Batesville High School and had two missions: to marry his high school sweetheart, MaryLou Huneke, and become a dairy farmer. He accomplished both of his goals.

Arnie lived what most describe as his best life building a farm business in Ripley County where he also ran a Dekalb/Asgrow seed dealership. He was a member and councilman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Crossroads. Arnie was a 20+ year board member and President of the Laughery-Valley Ag Co-op in Osgood and a state leader of the Indiana Dairy Herd Improvement Association for 25 years.

Being adventurers, Arnie and MaryLou traveled together to Europe and 48 states (including Alaska and Hawaii) sharing their love of life and each other everywhere they went. They wintered and have many friends in Fort Myers, Florida.

His happiest times were when he was clearing trees on his back hoe to create more arable land. His favorite saying was, “I never worked a day in my life.” The saddest day every year for Arnie was the last day of harvest.

He is survived by his life-long companion and wife of 67 years, MaryLou (Huneke) Wehr. Other survivors include his daughter, Nanette (Richard) Mazzei and children Joseph and Emily; son, Matthew (Deanna) Wehr and children Tyler (Veronica) Wehr, Ariana Wehr (Stanley Fink), Victoria (Jeremy) Handy; daughter, Sandra (Jack) Laugle and their children Mitch, Megan, and Mason; son, Curtis (Michelle) Wehr and children Ethan and Carter; sister-in-law, Susie Wehr (Stanton) Munz; brother, Kenneth and his wife Beverly (Spencer) Wehr; Greg (Candy) Wehr’s children, Dawn (Stephen) Powaga, Holly Wehr and Libby (Blake) Litmer; He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
