The Lady FC Wildcat Cross Country team gave an excellent performance at the Rushville Invitational on Saturday, August 26th. Franklin County freshman, Lauren Kelley, placed 10th out of 101 competitors. Her time of 20:57 is only 8 seconds away from breaking the Franklin County women’s cross country record. Junior, Taylor Stewart, had the second best Franklin County time with 23:58. Sophomores, Kairee Hodapp and Katelyn Meyer were only seconds behind her. The whole team performed exceptionally well at this meet, especially when compared to last year’s results at the Rushville Invite. They are starting the year with faster times than ever.
The Wildcat boys’ cross country team had a very successful Rushville Invitational meet. Senior, Cody Moore was the top runner for Franklin County. His time of 18:21 earned him 17th place, out of 118 competitors. He is only 14 seconds off of his all time PR. Senior, Evan Apsley, the second best finisher for Franklin County is also keeping hit time under 19 minutes. His time of 18:40 earned him 24th place, less than 20 seconds from a top 20 finish. Freshman, Drew Grant, is making an impressive start to the season. His time of 20:35 is closing in on a 19 minute finishing time. The FC boys cross country team is starting off with most members of the team already closing in on breaking their own personal records.

The Batesville Bulldogs traveled to Rushville for their annual Cross Country Classic Invitational where the Lions host more than 50 teams. This competition is split up into 3 different divisions depending on school enrollment numbers.
Batesville competed in the Division II race with 18 teams in their division. The weather was pretty much perfect, much better than the week before, with literally no humidity and the temperature in the low 70’s. The Bulldogs took advantage of these weather conditions as the boys put their top 5 in the top 20 of the race, scoring just 61 points to bring home the championship trophy, beating the next team by over 40 points. Top runners for the dogs were, Joshua Myers, 6th, followed closely by just two seconds, teammate Adam Moster in 7th. Freshman Dillan Murray placed 13th with teammate Quinten Gowdy just two seconds behind in 15th place. Finishing the top 5 for Batesville was Christopher Laymon coming in 20th. The other two varsity runners for the Bulldogs for the morning were Joseph Choi (35th) and John Thompson (44th).
The girls also had some great performances with 3 in the top 20 and claiming their division’s runner up spot as Greensburg took home the championship with 66 points to Batesville’s 88. Top runners scoring for Batesville and award winners were, Liz Loichinger in 5th, Emma Gausman 8th, closely followed by teammate Haylee Harmeyer in 9th. Finishing out the top 5 for the Bulldogs were Audrey Weigel in 33rd and Cheyenne Laker coming in 38th. The other two varsity runners for the morning were freshmen Trysta Vierling (41st) and Ava Ralston (54th).
After all three division races were over, an open race for all JV runners was held and many great performances were shown during this race by the Bulldogs. Although there were not any awards or team scores, the Bulldogs still competed their best posting some great times. Leading the way for the boys was Nathan Eckstein and for the girls, Kate Poltrack. When all was said and done for the day, I am excited to report that the Batesville Cross Country squad posted 15 overall personal bests. These personal records went to: Joshua Myers, Dillon Murray, Chris Laymon, John Thompson, Nathan Eckstein, Kaleb McBeath, Luke Esser, Adam Hollowell, Alex Livers, Luke Nuhring, Nathan Villani, Landon Gutzwiller, Cheyenne Laker, Trysta Vierling and Ava Ralston. Congratulations to all!
This week’s schedule will take the Bulldogs to Milan on Thursday to compete in the County meet.
