Andrew J. Decker, age 61 of Batesville, died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Born May 8, 1955 in Batesville, he is the son of Helen (Nee: Moris) and Joseph Decker. Andy worked as disc jockey for nearly 20 years at several local radio stations. He was one of the original D.J.’s for WRBI Radio in Batesville. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #1461 and St. Louis Church.
Andy was a very quiet man away from the radio microphone. He loved music of all types and had a massive record collection. He also had a passion for reading and a large book collection as well. Faith was important to Andy, who served for years as a lector at church and as a member of the initiation team for the Knights of Columbus. His family described him as a casual Reds fan who also enjoyed high school football games, crossword puzzles and playing the clarinet and saxophone.
He is survived by his mother Helen of Batesville; sisters Teresa Huy of Cincinnati, Susan Decker of Batesville; brothers Paul of Pinckney, Michigan, Pete of Indianapolis; one niece and seven nephews. He is preceded in death by his father.
Visitation is Wednesday, October 19th, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
