Alyce Laker

Alyce Yvonne Laker, 85, was born in Petersburg, KY on August 31, 1937, one of 12 children of the late Eva Marie Craft and Charles Jacob Nixon. Alyce graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1957 and was chosen Aurora Farmer’s Fair Queen her senior year. She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Laker on May 29, 1958. Alyce was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran church in Aurora. Alyce was a homemaker but also worked beside her husband at the Robert L. Johnston Gambles Store in Aurora where they were owners for over 50 years. Alyce also served as the Manager of Martin’s Jewelry store in Aurora for 5 years. She was a member of Tri Kappa sorority and was a frequent volunteer at St. John’s Lutheran church and school in many capacities over the years. Alyce loved caring for her children and grandchildren. She had many friends and family. Alyce had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She loved a good party, being on the river, traveling the world, playing golf, walking her dog and tending to her garden.
Alyce is proceeded in death by her late husband Robert “Bob” Laker, her parents, Eva and Jacob; her granddaughters Sarah and Stephanie Laker; her siblings, Charles Nixon, Paul Nixon, Robert Nixon, Jane Witham, Donna McWethy, Ruth Moore, Dorothy Hoeping, and Norma Robinson. She is survived by her son Greg (Jeanne) Laker , Zionsville, IN, and her daughter Carol (Mike) Rudicle of Carmel , Indiana; her sister, Peggy Zimmer, The Villages, FL: brother Gary Wayne Nixon of Winchester, KY; Brother David Nixon of ,Berea, KY; and her grandchildren, Nick (Emily)Rudicle, Laura Rudicle, Adam Laker, and Abbie Laker.
Friends are invited to a calling on Tuesday, March 14th from 11:00am – 1:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 220 Mechanic St, Aurora, IN. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1:00pm also at the church.
Interment will follow at River View Cemetery , Aurora, IN.
