Alma “Sue” Herndon, 82, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025.
Born in Stearns, Kentucky, to William and Nancy Perry, Sue devoted her life to caring for others. She was a dedicated registered nurse specializing in critical care, known for her compassion, steadiness, and unwavering commitment to her patients.
A longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Aurora, Sue lived her faith through kindness and service. She found joy in the simple and meaningful things of life-gardening, canning, cooking, camping, crochet, square dancing, and traveling. She and her husband Tom proudly visited 48 states together, creating memories that their family will forever cherish. Above all, Sue loved spending time with her family and her beloved dogs.
Sue is survived by her husband, Tom Herndon; her children Cynthia Whalen, Wendy Hatfield (Rob Calvert), and Cheryl Whalen; and her grandchildren Emily Hatfield, George (Husna) Hatfield, Sage Dolan, Timothy James Ashcraft, and Brayden King. As the youngest of 8 children, Sue was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Lucille New, Herschel Perry, Estle Perry, Floyd Perry, Otis Perry, Thomas Perry, and Robert Perry.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 15th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic St., Aurora, Indiana 47001. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or PAWS of Dearborn County.
