Alice Rust, 78

Alice Rust, 78, Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. She was born September 22, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Ada (Greiner) and Alipio Graca. She is survived by husband Richard; sisters Helen Quinn and Ruth Johnson, sister-in-law Alisi Kane, sons Christopher (Mandy) Rust of Greensburg; Thomas (Bethany) Rust of Golden, Colorado, daughter Lee (Peter) Gonzalez of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren Nicole (Richard), Julie, Matthew (Megan), Jacqueline, Addison, Michael, and Emily; and great-grandchildren Stephanie and Richard. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roger Kane and George Graca, brothers-in-law John Quinn and Gary Johnson. She graduated from The Catholic University with a Bachelor of Arts.  She was children’s librarian at the Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library from 1975 to 1981, and director of the library from 1981 until her retirement in 1997.  Under her leadership the library opened a branch in Westport, provided bookmobile service to the county, introduced computers to the system, and dedicated a new library in 1993. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for a number of years and served as a marriage Prepare couple for twenty years.  After retirement she volunteered as a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and a docent at the Decatur County Historical Society.  She was an ardent quilter after her retirement and belonged to several quilt groups.  She lived in Colorado for three years with her son and two granddaughters, helping her son with their care. The family will receive friends from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A rosary will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m.  The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2019 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, or Greensburg-Decatur County Public Library.
