Alene Mae Schuman – Lawrenceville

Alene Mae Schuman, of Lawrenceville, was born on December 23, 1932 in Lawrenceville, a daughter to Kleo and Helen Werner Knecht.  She married William E. Schuman on October 20, 1951 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and together they raised eight children.  Alene was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies Sodality, Senior Citizens, Funeral Choir, taught religion classes, and was an Extraordinary Minister.  She also made a quilt for the church every year since age 11.  Alene was a wonderful seamstress and quilter, cook and caterer, and loved to garden, play scrabble and cards, and work puzzles.  She was very proud of the fact she had many godchildren.  On Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the age of 85, she passed away at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.

 

Those surviving who will cherish Alene’s memory include her children; Wilma Brannan of West Lafayette, Diana (Gene) Yee of Cincinnati, Dolores (Don) Alexander of Lawrenceville, Daniel Charles (Deb) Schuman of Batesville, Arleen (Ron) Wuestefeld of St. Leon, Laura Schuman of Bright, Lisa (Randy) Broun of Cincinnati, and Michelle Shumate of Mississippi; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents and husband, William, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Stanley Knecht, Emma Oehlman, Roy Knecht and Robert Knecht; 2 great-grandchildren, Brandon Yee and Oliver Shipman, and a son-in-law, David Brannan.

 

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman.  Rosary will be recited at 3:30.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Vincent Lampert officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
