Albert A. Prickel, age 90 of Batesville, died Friday, February 16, 2018. Born February 14, 1928 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Catherine (Nee: Bruns) and Edward Prickel. He married Rosemary Volk March 10, 1951 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and she preceded him in death February 15, 2009. He was the Benefits Administrator at Fernald for 40 years, retiring January 1, 1993. After retiring from work, he volunteered at Margaret Mary Hospital, where he was in charge of the Indiana Department of Insurance SHIIP program (Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program), helping families file claims and receive benefits.
Albert served in the Korean War and was proud of his military service. A long time member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183, he served as post Chaplain for 21 years, conducting over 250 funerals for the Honor Guard detail. He was also an avid baseball fan. He followed the Reds and coached youth baseball for many years in addition to umpiring youth baseball and softball. In addition to the Batesville V.F.W., he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461 and St. Louis Church.
He is survived by his daughters Janet Schumacher of Batesville, Pat Hill of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; sons Ron of Bloomington, Indiana, Terry of Batesville; sister Alma Obermeyer of Batesville; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by sons Randy and Tom and brother Alanus (Doc).
Visitation is Monday, February 19th, from 9 – 11:30 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at Noon at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
