Of the girls basketball sectional sites across the state which were supposed to have additional first round games Wednesday night, only three got their games in. Greensburg was one of them.

As heard on WRBI, the host Lady Pirates played a tremendous second half and defeated Batesville 62-39 after leading just 22-20 at halftime.

The Bulldogs had a very solid first half of basketball.  They kept the turnovers to a minimum, matched the Pirates on the glass and shot the ball reasonably well.

For the game, BHS outrebounded the tournament hosts by six and kept its turnover total to 12 which is well below their season average.  But the Bulldogs 29 percent shooting overall could not keep pace with the Pirates performance in the second half.

Over the final 16 minutes, Greensburg connected on nearly 60 percent of its shots which included a smoking hot 8-of-14 from the arc.  For the game, the Pirates outscored the Bulldogs 33-12 on triples.  The Lady Bucs also committed just one second-half turnover and had only eight miscues for the game.

Greensburg’s Kayla Tamm and Carlee Adams both buried four bombs for 12 points each.  Teammate Mylie Wilkison hit two trifectas of her own and scored a game-high 20.

Emma Weiler of Batesville scrapped her way to 13 points.  She had a pair of 3-point plays and a couple of three balls as well.  Alyson Peters posted eight points and Carley Pride struck twice from 19’-9” for six.

In the first game, Lawrenceburg and Connersville were knotted at 13 at the half, but Tigers kicked things into gear during the final two quarters and won 46-33.

LHS saw Kirsten Cross lead with 12 points, Chloe Meyer scored 10, Molly Steuer had nine and Nicole Houze put in eight.

Brittney Bottomley’s seven points led the Spartans.  Paige Dunaway, Hailey Sembach and Jacey Willhelm all contributed six.

The Tigers had a plus-9 edge on the glass and had marginal advantages in turnovers and field goal shooting.  The Spartans had a nice night at the line making all 10 attempts.

Weather permitting, Friday’s semifinals will have South Dearborn and Rushville in the 6 pm followed by Lawrenceburg and Greensburg in the nightcap.

We thank Greensburg AD Stacy Meyer and our own Mike Myers for the accommodations and hospitality. We also thank coaches Bryan Helvie and Jason Simpson for their information.
