Indianapolis, IN — On Friday, the Indiana House passed a bill that would ban almost all abortions in the state. As a result the bill headed back to the Senate Chambers for another review. 67th House District Representative Randy Frye said that the House version contains exceptions for cases of rape and incest and to protect the life and physical health of the mother. The House version passed early yesterday afternoon by a 62 to 38 vote. The State Senate then spent much of the evening last night discussing the changes. The Indiana Senate voted to accept Senate Bill 1 as it was passed in the House, avoiding a Conference Committee. The State Senate’s vote was 28-19. This makes the Indiana Legislature the first in the country to vote to restrict abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court opened the door by overturning Roe v. Wade in June. The legislation is now in the hands of the Governor Holcomb.
