Janice L. Gartenman, of Brookville, was born on April 18, 1945 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Richard H. and Mary (Wicks) Pinar. She married Chuck Gartenman on October 25, 2000, in Harrison, Ohio. Janice worked for the FBI, Computer Analyst, Champion international Paper and Great American Insurance. She was Board Secretary of Franklin Co. EMS, EMS #2 training officer, secretary, EMT, and driver; Secretary of LEPC, member of Franklin Co. EMA, Secretary of Humane Society and dedicated volunteer to the local pound. Janice cared endlessly for animals of all kinds, was a devoted Christian and good Samaritan, and loved nature and all of God’s creations. On April 4, 2016, after a 5 year battle with cancer, she died peacefully at her home with the support from Margaret Mary Health Hospice.
Those surviving who will cherish Janice’s memory include her husband, Chuck; son, Timothy Ryan; daughter, Wendy Myers (Mark Trent); stepson, Dan (Callie) Gartenman; stepdaughter, Cassandra (Andrew) Gartenman Bear; grandchildren, James Ryan, Joshua Briand, Dalton Briand, Annie Briand D’ Alexander, Tyler Briand and Meghan Briand; step-granddaughter Ruby Bear; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Deford; brother, Richard (Denise) Pinar II, and many other relatives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Pete Deford.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville, Indiana. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Gary Jackson from the Friendship Baptist Church of Colerain Township, will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
