LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. – Olympic medalist Nick Goepper is owning up to a mistake.
Prosecutors are charging Goepper with one count of criminal mischief in connection to an incident on August 8.
Goepper allegedly suffered an anxiety attack and committed several acts of vandalism at Hidden Valley Lake.
Court documents show the skier vandalized eight vehicles causing over $8,000 in damage.
The investigation had no suspects, but Goepper and his family came forward to accept responsibility. Goepper paid all restitution and apologized to the victims, as well as the sheriff’s department.
Dearborn County prosecutors have entered into a diversion agreement which results in the dismissal of the charge after one year as long as Goepper does not commit any further criminal offense.
“This case had no suspects at the time that Nick Goepper came forward and admitted to his actions. If Nick Goepper had not cooperated, these victims would not have been made whole and the crime would be unsolved. The fact that he came forward speaks to the tremendous character of Nick Goepper and his family,” stated Dearborn-Ohio Prosecutor Aaron Negangard.
“We hope that Nick is able to put this behind him and continues to have great success.”
