INDIANAPOLIS – A Greensburg real estate title agent was indicted for allegedly scheming thousands of dollars from clients, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
37-year-old Patrick Hayden is the co-owner of Mainstreet Title in Greensburg. According to the indictment, he is accused of embezzling $448,172 from clients which were used to fund another business and support an alleged drug habit.
Investigators believe the funds were redirected by using money normally used to pay off an existing mortgage, appraisals or title work.
The illegal activity was first noticed during a routine examination by the Indiana Department of Insurance.
If Hayden is found guilty he could receive a federal prison sentence of up to a 20 years.
41-year-old Adam Mears of Carmel, Indiana, was also indicted on similar allegations Tuesday as part of a separate investigation.
