GREENSBURG – A 23-year-old inmate at the Decatur County Jail escaped from the facility but was quickly recaptured Monday.
Kevin Kilgore had finished a video court appointment and was making a phone call nearby a jail garage where the door was open, the Greensburg Daily News reports.
Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen said the inmate ran out of the garage and fled a couple of blocks away onto McKee Street.
Kilgore eluded jailers for approximately five minutes before he was taken back into custody. Prosecutors may pursue escape charges, the sheriff told the newspaper.
According to court documents, this was not the first time Kilgore has tried to avoid capture by law enforcement. On Thursday, he was arrested for manufacturing meth after police allegedly found a one-pot meth lab at a home on Lincoln Street.
During the police raid, Kilgore is said to have hid in a crawl space before he was arrested.
