Update (10:20 a.m.)
An Indianapolis man is behind bars in Decatur County after leading police on a three-county chase on Interstate 74.
Robert Bowman, 54, is being held at Decatur County Jail on suspicion of OWI While Endangering a Person, Resisting Law Enforcement with Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Possession of Scheduled II Controlled Substances.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department called Greensburg Police Saturday night regarding a possible drunk driver involved in a domestic situation traveling westbound on the interstate.
Dispatchers later received a report from a citizen who was possibly following the GMC Sonoma pickup near the 133 mile marker.
Officers located the truck and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Police say Bowman failed to pull over and led them on a pursuit.
Several agencies were involved in the chase that included stop sticks being laid on the road and causing the tires of the truck to deflate.
“The vehicle ended the pursuit driving on the rims of the pickup. The slick condition of the rims caused the truck to lose traction and strike the guardrail,” Greensburg Police Chief Stacey Chasteen stated.
She added that a Shelby County police car was struck as the suspect vehicle spun several times before striking the guardrail.
Officers say they had to utilize a Shelbyville Police K9 and a taser to apprehend Bowman.
He was taken to an Indianapolis Hospital for injuries sustained in the pursuit. He was later transported to the Decatur County Jail where he remains jailed Monday morning.
