
The Boston Red Sox blanked the Reds 3-0 on Opening Day in Cincinnati as heard yesterday on WRBI. Andrew Abbott tossed six shutout innings with four strike outs. Rookie first baseman Sal Stewart had three of the Reds of four hits, including two doubles. Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet got the win; reliever Pierce Johnson took the loss for Cincinnati; and former Reds closer Aroldis Chapman notched the save. The two teams have the day off before the series resumes tomorrow afternoon. Airtime is 3:40 tomorrow on 103.9 FM.
Purdue advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight with a 79-77 win over 11th seed Texas in the West Region semifinal in San Jose, California last night. Trey Kaufman-Renn’s tip-in of a Braden Smith miss with .07 seconds remaining lifted the 2nd-seeded Boilermakers to the win and a date with #1 seed Arizona in tomorrow night’s West Region final and a chance to move on to the Final Four in Indianapolis next weekend.
