(Batesville, IN) – Batesville Fire and Rescue celebrated several important recognitions and milestones within the department this week.

Paramedics Lindsey Brison and Jacob King, plus firefighters Derrik Justice, Dave Krause and Zach Fleisher received commendations from the Indiana EMS Commission for their roles in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest save this summer.

On July 25, St. Louis Catholic Church Pastor Fr. Stan Pondo went into cardiac arrest. Fire and EMS personnel arrived within minutes and immediately began advanced life support care.

“Because of their quick actions, teamwork, and training, Father Stan survived,” reads a statement from Batesville Fire and Rescue. “Our crews had the incredible opportunity to meet and shake hands with the man whose life they work diligently to save (pictured). These moments are a true reminder of why we do what we do.”

In addition, Justice and fellow firefighter Scott Holmes completed their one-year probationary period and were presented with their department badges and leather helmet.

“Congratulations to our new firefighters on completing their probation, and to our commendation recipients on a life-saving achievement that will forever make a difference,” department leaders added.
