Oldenburg volleyball bested South Decatur in four sets. Scores were 25-23 (South Decatur), 25-23, 25-17, 25-6 (OA)…OA won the JV match in two sets.
Milan volleyball split with Lawrenceburg. The Indians won the varsity match in three sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-21) while the Tigers claimed the JV contest in three (25-16, 25-22, 15-9).
Oldenburg boys soccer got past Centerville 2-1 last evening at The Graveyard. Connor Holder and Rylan Hill scored goals for the Twisters.
Oldenburg girls soccer took two from Columbus East. It was the Twisters over the Olympians in the varsity match, 8-nil. OA won the JV match, 9-nil.
At the 10-team Batesville Cross Country Invitational, the host Bulldogs edged out East Central in both the boys and girls Large School races. The Bulldogs got by the Trojans in the boys race 30-38 BHS’ Ethan Rahschulte was the Large School champ with a time of 18:07. In the girls Large School race, it was Batesville over EC 22-37. Bulldog freshman Ava Wade led the way with a time of 19:52. Milan got past North Decatur 27-30 in the boys Small School race. The Indians Lucas Cooney crossed the finish line first at 17:33. The Chargers won the girls race, with Oldenburg’s Josie Wenning finishing first with a time of 22:26.
The Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Reds 10-5 in the opener of their National League Wild Card series heard last night on WRBI. Te host Dodgers clubbed five home runs – two of which came off the bat of Shohei Ohtani. The Reds will try and avoid elimination in Game Two tonight. Zach Littell starts for Cincinnati. The Las Vegas Aces eliminated the Indiana Fever 107-98 in overtime in the fifth and deciding game of the WNBA Semifinals last night in Sin City. The Fever played most of the second half without leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell, who suffered a left leg injury in the third quarter. Odyssey Sims led Indiana with 27 points. The Aces advance to the WNBA Finals against the Phoenix Mercury.
The 2028 Women’s Basketball Final Four will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It was originally supposed to be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, but the NCAA Division I women’s basketball committee said they are moving it to Lucas Oil to accommodate growing fan interest. The change will add about 13,000 seats. This will also be the first time the Women’s Final Four is played in a football stadium since 2005, which was also in Indianapolis at the old RCA Dome.
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen took responsibility on Monday for the 10 men on the field when the Los Angeles Rams scored their game-winning touchdown last Sunday. Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo owned up to it yesterday. Anaurumo said it won’t happen again. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter says they are moving on from AD Mitchell’s bad game against the Rams. Mitchell was at fault for two touchdowns being wiped off the board, including one in which he lost a fumble through the end zone that turned a 76-year touchdown into a possession for LA. Cooter says it’s been addressed and that they are getting ready for the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday at home.
Week Six of the college football season begins tomorrow night. Purdue is 2-2 and hosts Illinois on Saturday at noon. Ball State is 1-3 and will entertain Ohio on Saturday at noon. Notre Dame is 2-2 and welcomes in Boise State Saturday afternoon. 5-0 Indiana is idle and will visit Oregon in Week Seven.
