South Ripley topped Milan 67-37 in a girls basketball game heard last night on WRBI. Aubrey Werner led the Raiders with 20 points, followed by Claire Samples with 14 points and Kaiya Renear with 12. South Ripley improves to 1-1 on the season…Elsewhere, Class 3A #1 Greensburg downed North Decatur 68-36…It was East Central over Franklin County 52-26…Shawe Memorial knocked off Jac-Cen-Del 68-41…and South Dearborn outlasted Switzerland County 70-65 in double overtime.
Batesville Middle School took two from South Ripley in boys 7th and 8th grade hoops. It was the Bulldogs over the Raiders in the 8th grade contest 31-20, and BMS won the 7th grade game 40-31.
St. Michael beat St. Louis 33-17 in 6th grade boys basketball.
In college football, Buffalo outgunned Ball State 51-48 in overtime last night. The Cardinals fall to 3-7.

Several new hires are joining holdovers from past seasons on new Reds manager Terry Francona’s coaching staff. Former Astros manager and longtime Francona staffer Brad Mills joins the Reds as one of the team’s bench coaches. Also added were assistant hitting coaches Alex Pelaez and Will Remillard plus bullpen catcher James Keller. New hitting coach Chris Valaika – who worked under Francona in Cleveland – was hired in October. Several members of former manager David Bell’s coaching staff are returning. They are bench coach and field coordinator Freddie Benevides, pitching coach Derek Johnson, first base coach Collin Cowgill, third base coach J.R. House, assistant pitching coach Alon Leichman, bullpen coach Matt Tracy, coach/coordinator of advanced scouting Kyle Arnsberg and bullpen catcher Jose Duarte.
