Franklin County shut out Greensburg 5-Nil in a girl soccer sectional match last night at Batesville that you heard on WRBI. Wildcat freshman Annabelle Wiesman recorded a hat trick in the first half and scored a fourth goal in the second half. Madesyn Sunderhaus added the fifth goal for the Wildcats.

In boys soccer sectional play, East Central blanked Shelbyville 3-Nil at Center Grove. The Trojans will play the host school for the sectional championship Saturday night at 7; Greensburg was eliminated by Connersville 5-Nil at the Rushville sectional; Lawrenceburg got past host South Dearborn 1-Nil; Milan blanked Jac-Cen-Del 6-Nil and Oldenburg Academy dumped Union County by an identical 6-Nil score. The host Indians and Twisters will meet for the sectional title Saturday night at 7.

East Central #1 singles tennis player Joel Richter advanced to this afternoon’s regional final at Columbus North. Richter notched the win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, in yesterday’s semifinal round.

In the Major League Baseball playoffs, the New York Mets advanced to the National League Championship Series with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game Four of their Division Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced the San Diego Padres 8-0. Batesville native Bryan Hoeing gave up two runs on three hits and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning. The Padres and Dodgers will meet in a winner-take-all Game Five tomorrow night in Los Angeles. The Detroit Tigers shut out the Cleveland Guardians 3-0 in Game Three of their American League Division Series. The Tigers lead the best-of-five series two games to one and can close it out with a win in Game Four this evening. And the Yankees got past the Royals 3-2 in Kansas City. New York leads two games to one. Game Four is tonight.
