Edward Joseph Schwegman

Edward J. Schwegman, 75 years old of Guilford, passed away on July 4, 2024. Originally from White Oak, Edward graduated from LaSalle High School before attending University of Cincinnati to study architecture. Edward played on the Bearcats basketball team while at UC. Then decided to transfer to another school for Engineering. Although he landed a job at CG&E in the engineering department, he moved to land surveying where he worked his way up the ladder and held the top supervisor position and proudly retired after 35 years.

It was during his high school days that Edward met Maryann Rizzo from McAuley High School. A romance developed that evolved into a lifelong love and they were married in 1971. Edward had a generous heart, was selfless in every way, and was kind to everyone he met. He had a wonderful trait of making friends wherever he went, whether he was at the grocery store, a grandchild’s event, or at a party, he always left making an imprint on someone’s life. Ed was a low-key kind of guy, never raising his voice or getting worked up about anything.  He enjoyed fishing and when he was younger would take fishing trips to Canada with his friends. When they lived on the lake in Hidden Valley, Ed enjoyed taking the kids on the lake for some fishing or on the ski boat for a day of skiing.

After retiring, Edward created a work shop in the basement where he made various items for their home. He built bookcases, clothes trees & potting benches for the kids, and an extra heavy picnic table for their screen porch. Edward was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association in Friendship, IN  and spent time competing in matches, & building guns for himself. He also enjoyed the art of scrimshaw and created a couple powder horns at home. Though he had many hobbies, his true joy came from his family. Maryann was the light of his life and he was beyond proud of his three children and their accomplishments. He loved attending sporting events and horse show competitions of his grandchildren and found much joy in watching them grow up. His family would agree, if our world was made up of Edwards, it truly would be a better place.

Ed  will be deeply missed by Maryann, his wife of 53 years; his children Andy (Jennifer) Schwegman, Sarah (Dennis) Palmer, Katie (Gerry) Beluan; grandchildren Olivia, Luke, Aiden, and Liam; identical twin Don (Sue) Schwegman; sisters-in-law Barb Schwegman and Kathy Schwegman; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Olivia and Leonard Schwegman and siblings Mary Clare Fragge, Lois Melzer, Bill Schwegman, and George Schwegman.
