Mr. Harold Ray Scranton Sr., age 81, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on July 29, 1942 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James G. and Anna M. (Ray) Scranton. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where he attended high school. Harold was inducted into the United States Army on April 1, 1964 in Louisville, Kentucky, serving in the Vietnam War. He received the Marksman Rife M-14 Badge, Expert M60 Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was transferred to the reserves on March 27, 1966 in Oakland, California. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class on March 31, 1970. On February 14, 1972, Harold was employed as a roller operator for Randall Textron in Vevay, Indiana until December 31, 1995. He was also employed for Hamilton Cosco Products in Columbus, Indiana and for the Charlestown Power Plant in Charlestown, Indiana. He also worked at the junkyard and sawmill in Fairview, Indiana. Harold was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and faithfully served on the Honor Guard. In January 2024, Harold was presented with a Quilt of Valor for his service to his country. He was also a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church in Fairview, Indiana. Harold enjoyed hunting, raising a garden and socializing with his friends. Harold passed away with his loving family by his side at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Harold will be deeply missed by his son, Harold Ray “Snookie” Scranton, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Fairview, IN; his companion, Louisa Frazier and her family of Fairview, IN; his granddaughter, Kayla Scranton of Fairview, IN; his grandson, Nathan Scranton of Fairview, IN; his brother, Donald Scranton of Fairview, IN and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James G. Scranton; his mother, Anna M. (Ray) Scranton; his sisters, Jerrie Powers, Norma Robinson, June Gentry and Grace Gentry; his brother, Robert Scranton; his brothers-in-law, Albert “Buster” Powers, Sr. and James Lonnie Gentry and his sister-in-law, Wanda Scranton.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
