(Statehouse) – Area lawmakers say significant state funding is en route to local communities to help complete road and bridge projects through the Community Crossings Matching Grant program.
A total of 188 towns, cities, and counties throughout Indiana will receive $91.5 million in state matching grants during this funding cycle.
Local grant recipients and the amounts are:
- Brookville, $227,028;
- Dearborn County, $1 million;
- Franklin County, $996,787;
- Greensburg, $317,909; and
- Napoleon, $54,352.
Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects in July. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. The Community Crossings initiative has provided nearly $1.5 billion in state-matching funds for local road improvement projects since 2016.
“It is important for the state to continue investing in rural infrastructure, as many of our roads and bridges are more likely to be subjected to heavy travel and weather,” said State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg). “I want to thank our community leaders for securing this funding, I look forward to seeing its impact throughout Senate District 42.”
“Roads are part of everyday life in Indiana, and it’s important that they’re maintained for Hoosiers and businesses,” said State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon). “This state funding opens the door to vital repairs and improvements, which might not have happened as quickly without it.”
“It’s important that our roads and bridges are safe and functioning to keep Hoosiers and our economy moving,” said State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville). “Community Crossings is a great tool for local communities to utilize because it helps stretch budgets farther and allows for necessary infrastructure improvements to be made sooner.”
“Industries all across the state rely on our roads and bridges, shipping products all across the state and country,” said State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville). “To keep our economy and goods moving, we know that the quality of our infrastructure must be top of mind. This state grant opportunity ensures communities of all sizes can apply and move forward with much-needed projects.”
