STATEWIDE — Indiana is dealing with a teacher shortage that could impact class sizes during the upcoming school year.
Right now, the Indiana State Education Job Board indicates there are over 4,200 education-related jobs open across the state, with nearly half of those for classroom teachers.
The profession has taken a hit recently, with many veteran teachers leaving after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and many who cite burnout and low pay as reasons for leaving.
The Indiana State Teachers Association is concerned and fearful that the upcoming school year could begin with class sizes that are bigger than expected due to the teacher shortage.
