H.S. softball recaps from Saturday, April 16

The following are high school softball recaps from Saturday, April 16. All games are varsity unless noted otherwise.  There may be updates, so please check back.

Batesville split two games at the Rising Sun Invitational.

The Bulldogs lost 9-7 in game one to Triton Central.

For BHS, Sophie Lee, Samantha Kessens and Emma Belter all had three hits.  Lee stole three bases and Kessens drove in two runs.

Batesville outslugged Northeastern in the consolation game, 14-13.

Sarah Ripperger crushed a two-run homer and stole a pair of bases.  Kaitlyn Hinners had three hits and two swipes.  Belter busted her first dinger of the season and singled with two RBI. Calli Fletcher, Kessens and Renne Lecher all had a pair of singles.

The Shiners won the invitational beating Northeastern 8-3 in their first game and toping Triton Central 8-2 in the championship.

The Sun’s Tamryn Miller singled and doubled twice in game one with two RBI.  Sydney Halloran also drove in two runs on two hits.  Cora Poling struck out five and walked none with the complete game victory.

In the title match, Cora Poling had three hits and a ribbie while Josie Bell batted in a runner on two hits. Alyssa Simpson pitched a full seven for the win in this one with eight Ks and one walk.

Connersville swept South Dearborn in a doubleheader, 13-6 in game one and 18-4 in game two.

In the opener for the Spartans, Rayleigh Bresher and McKenna Lucas both homered.  Lucas and Paige Dunaway each had three hits while Shelby Wolski and Baylie Spurlock recorded two apiece.

In game two for CHS, Bresher belted four hits including her second tater of the day. Lucas homered for a second time as well.  Carmen Ruble had four hits.  Bree Brock, Jade Green and Spurlock logged two each.  The Spartans, collectively, amassed 22 hits in just five innings.

Franklin County split a double header with Union County.  The Patriots claimed the first game 12-1.   It was the first loss of the season for the Wildcats who were held to just four hits. Two came from from Maci Lake (single/double) who also had the team’s only RBI.

The Brookville ladies bounced back in game two to knock off the Patriots 5-2 in eight innings.  Of FC’s 11 hits, Lake singled three times with two RBI.  Kiersten Schell singled and doubled with two ribbies.  Brooke Stang doubled twice and batted in one while Anne Becker picked up a couple of base hits.

KK Ferman pitched all eight frames to get the win, scattering seven hits and striking out 14.

In the rematch from Friday, Hauser defeated North Decatur for a second time, this time, 17-2. Nine runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning.

The Chargers Keesha Crosland singled and doubled.  Kayln Muckerhide tripled with two RBI.  Macy Scudder had a double.

Hauser’s Kyra Meister, Lucie Asher, Isabella Brunner and Maley Jordan all had three hits.  Brunner and Jordan both plated four runs. Meister and Kenzie Bostic each had two ribbies.  Paige McDaniel pitched three innings for the win, striking out two and walking none.

Oldenburg Academy lost 24-1 at home to Morristown.   The Twisters managed just two hits off Yellow Jacket pitchers Kirsten Whitney and Rhylee Moran.

OA’s Addisyn Lambert and Malea Herbert got the hits while Hannah Langdon drove in the team’s only run.

For Morristown, Nevaeh Cox and Alexis Reynolds both had five hits.  Cox homered and collected five RBI.  Reynolds batted in three.

North Decatur’s junior high was shut out by Rising Sun 11-0.   The Chargers managed just two hits off Shiner pitching.  Those were recorded by Mia Stier and Madison Rohls.
