Ruth Mae (White) Darling

Ruth Mae Darling, formerly of Bright, Indiana passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, IN.

She was born on Lee’s Creek in Harrison, Ohio on March 20, 1918 to Charles and Daisy (nee: Marker) White.  At age 1, the family moved to Logan, IN where she lived until her marriage on June 11,1938 to Leonard Darling.  Married for over 54 years, Ruth spent 75 years on their Mt. Pleasant farm.  To this union were born two sons, Thomas Eugene and Jerry Charles.

A longtime Methodist, Ruth was a member of the Logan, Mt. Pleasant and currently the Dearborn Hills United Methodist Churches.  She was always active in church work, helping with dinners, leading MYF group, teaching Sunday school classes, playing the piano and singing in the choirs.

Ruth enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.  She was a renowned cook and loved sharing her dishes with her family and others in the neighborhood.  Ruth also liked to quilt with friends and neighbors.  She was always ready for a game of cards or to teach her grandchildren to fish.  Ruth enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and relatives by writing many detailed letters or cards over the years.  She also loved birds and enjoyed her feeders even after moving to the nursing home.  Most of all Ruth loved her family.  She recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by many of her dearest friends and family.  Her loving smile will be truly missed by all.

She is survived by one son Thomas (Peggy) Darling, six grandchildren, Andrea (Jon) Glassman, Jill Darling, Jeff (Teresa) Darling, Jennifer (Jim) Clark IV, Jackie (Chris) Mulligan, Greg (Jo) Darling; eight great grandchildren, Jared, Robbie (Annie) and Charlie Glassman, James (Kristy) Clark V, Jessie (Isaiah) Clark Steffen, Kaitlynn Darling, Aaron and Zachary Mulligan; and two great-great grandchildren, James Russell Clark VI and Kennli Monney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her son Jerry, her sister Mabel Bourquein, her daughter-in-laws, Connie Darling and Becky Darling along with her niece Wauneta Betscher, nephew Willard Bourquein and her dear granddaughter Jenna Clark.

Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2018 from 11am until time of funeral service at 1pm all at Dearborn Hills United Methodist Church.   Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
