County unemployment numbers decline

Batesville, In. — Unemployment in the Hoosier state for January 2018 is 3.3 percent, lower than the national average of 4.1 percent. For more than four years, the Indiana rate has been lower than the national average.

Unemployment rates in several southeastern Indiana counties declined as well. Dearborn County was at 4.1 percent for January of 2018, down from 5.0 a year ago. Decatur County reported 3.2 percent, down from 3.9 percent in January of 2017. Franklin County had 4.5 percent for January, down from 4.9 in January of 2017. Jennings County reported 4.5 percent down from 5.3 one year before. Ohio County had a rate of 3.8 percent for January of 2018, down from 4.6 in 2017. Ripley County reported 4.1 percent, down from 4.9 percent in January of 2017. Rush County had a rate of 3.2 percent for January 2018 and 4.1 percent for the same period in 2017. Switzerland County reported 4 percent for 2018 and 5.1 percent for January of 2017.
