INDOT avoids full U.S. 52 closure with new plan

Metamora, In. — Due to public concerns the Indiana Department of Transportation has revised the construction plan for the bridge work on U.S. 52 in Metamora.

Engineers and representatives from RAM Construction have developed a plan to use flaggers to avoid completely closing the bridge during construction operations. The original plan called for a 30-day full closure.

Workers will place bridge deck overlays on a 4-span bridge on U.S. 52 over the Whitewater River and a 3-span bridge on U.S. 52 over the Whitewater Canal. The overlay prevents moisture intrusion and increase service life and traction.

The work will be done in the fall of 2017.
