Carl D. Grieshop, age 78 of Batesville, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Margaret Mary Health. Born September 15, 1938 in Morris, Indiana, he is the son of Eleanor (Nee: Druhman) and Walter Grieshop. He married Dolores Ziegler June 18, 1960 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Carl served in the Navy from 1956 to 1959. He worked at Walsman Supply for 25 years, maintenance for the Batesville School Corporation 19 years and as a substitute bus drive 15 years.
Carl loved being outdoors, so taking the family camping was something he truly enjoyed doing. The kids teased that in the early years, the camper was pretty basic. As the years went by, each camper kept adding more creature comforts until at some point it was no longer “roughing it.” He could spend hours in the woods chopping wood or hunting for ginseng. Every morning started with doing the word search in the paper and reading it from cover to cover. Carl was a long time league bowler at Oldenburg and also liked frying chicken and bartending at the Fireside Inn. Other interests included woodworking, playing poker and 500, jig saw puzzles and relaxing on the deck letting the squirrels entertain him. Carl apparently collected or horded, depending on whom you talk with, screws, nuts and bolts. If you needed something, he had it. His family would nickname him the Ace Hardware guy.
He is survived by his wife Dolores; daughter Deb Ertel of Osgood; son David Grieshop of Batesville; brother Bob Grieshop of Oldenburg; eight grandchildren; one step grandchild; three great grandchildren and one more on the way. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers John, Tom and Don Grieshop and sisters Mary Alice Borchelt, Juanita Metz and Marjorie Siefert.
Visitation is Friday, March 31st, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1st, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Margaret Mary Health Hospice Foundation or Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
