RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. — A Sunday afternoon crash in Ripley County claimed the life of 2 Greensburg men.
Around 12:45 PM, Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call regarding a single vehicle accident with injuries on Brownstown Road near the intersection of County Road 625 West, West of Napoleon.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a car driven by John T. Schwering, 53, of Greensburg, was traveling east on Brownstown Road.
For unknown reasons, Schwering’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, colliding with a culvert before becoming airborne and flipping several times, finally coming to a rest on its top in a field on the south side of the road.
Both Schwering and a passenger, Boin W Cain, 66, of Greensburg, were not wearing seatbelts, and were ejected from the vehicle.
The Ripley County Coroner’s Officer declared both men deceased on the scene.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
