Legendary barber Fran Telles cut his last strand of hair at his barbershop on Boerhringer Street in March, and the shop sat empty over the summer.
That changed on Tuesday, as Brad Ott and Dallas Colley opened up B&D Barbershop. The two barbers operate a barbershop under the same name in Greensburg.
Brad Ott said, “I had been a client of Fran for awhile, and we started getting clients from Batesville in our barbershop in Greensburg, well we found out Fran retired, and we saw a need.”
“We got ahold of Fran and here we are,” he added.
Ott began cutting hair in the Marine Corp and later worked at Delta Faucet. Co-owner Dallas Colley says he is newer to the barber profession but is learning the ropes quickly.
Twenty customers came into get a haircut during the first day of business in Batesville, including Fran Telles.
“He is happy that it will remain a barbershop,” Colley reported.
Telles owned the business for 68 years, and although he will not be in everyday, Colley and Ott say customers can expect to hear his sense of humor and see his easy going style in the barbershop frequently.
The co-owners want the atmosphere that Telles’ customers became accustomed with to never leave.
“One of the biggest things you see these days, the American icon barbershop is dying. It’s disappearing. So we are going to do our best to keep that alive around here,” said Ott.
The barbershop is currently open everyday excluding Wednesdays and Sundays, as the new owners work to take care of business both in Batesville and Greensburg.
Weekday hours are 9:00am-5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-12 p.m.
Regardless of age, Colley said anybody is welcome. “A barbershop isn’t just a place you come to get your hair buzzed off. We do all type of hair styles.”
He added, “Come in and give us a shot.”
