GREENSBURG, IN — Honda representatives and leaders from Greensburg and Decatur County gathered at City Hall Thursday afternoon to congratulate the Indiana Honda Auto Plant, which produces the North American Car of the Year – the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback.

“For all of our associates, it’s a very proud day for us,” said Greensburg plant co-lead Larry Geise. “We’re the sole manufacturer in the U.S. of the Civic Hatchback and for us, it’s just immense pride we have for everything we do every day.”

Geise said the Indiana Honda Auto Plant was up against some stiff competition for the prestigious award.

He added the partnership between the company and the community has made a huge difference since the plant opened and cars began rolling off the assembly lines 14 years ago.

“We can’t do this by ourselves, and the relationship between Greensburg, Decatur County, and Honda has continuously grown over the years,” said Geise. “We continue to look for opportunities in the future as well.”

Opening remarks were delivered by Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh and Decatur County Commissioner Jerome Buening.

During the celebration, Mayor Marsh proclaimed March 10, 2022, as “Honda Civic Hatchback Day” in the City of Greensburg.
