CINCINNATI – The first basket of the college basketball season went to none other than Lawrenceburg High School graduate Lauren Hill.

The freshman at Mount St. Joseph University made her college debut in front of 10,000 at Xavier’s Cintas Center and many more that were watching on television.

A 19-year-old suffering from what doctors call an inoperable brain cancer, Hill prefers to call Sunday’s game as her first, not her last.

Hill also made the last bucket of the game as Mount St. Joe’s went on to defeat Hiram College 66-55.

At halftime, Lauren was presented with the US Basketball Writers Association Most Courageous award by legendary college coach Pat Summit, who is battling Alzheimer’s disease.

The Layup 4 Lauren Challenge was launched to fight pediatric cancer. If you would like to donate to the cause click here.
