The Miami Marlins held off the Reds 6-4 in South Beach last night. Lefthander Andrew Abbott had a rough night on the mound for Cincinnati, giving up all six of the Marlins runs on six hits – three of them home runs – and three walks in 5 innings of work. His record falls to 9-9 on the year. T.J. Friedl accounted for all of the Reds runs when he clubbed his first career grand slam in the top of the 7th inning. The Athletic is reporting the Reds will face the Atlanta Braves in a game at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee next season. A formal announcement is expected by the end of this week. Bristol is best known for hosting two NASCAR races each year, and has been the site of other sporting events. The iconic track hosted a college football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016 which drew more than 150-thousand fans.
The Bengals and Colts continue training camp workouts prior to opening the preseason this weekend. Cincinnati’s practice session yesterday was a bit chippy with a number of scuffles breaking out, according to reporters covering the team.
At the Paris Olympics, Sarah Hildebrant from Granger won the gold medal in women’s 50KG freestyle wrestling. She defeated a Cuban opponent to win the gold.
Lawrenceburg native Mason Parris will compete tomorrow in the mens wrestling freestyle division. Parris’ first match will take place at 5:30 am Eastern Time.

The United States women’s basketball team got past Nigeria 88-74 in the quarterfinal round. The Americans go up against Australia in the semifinal round on Friday. Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd and Jackie Young are members of Team USA, which has won 59 straight games in Olympic play dating back to the 1996 games in Atlanta.
