Work search requirement reinstated by Governor’s executive order

Indianapolis, IN  — Governor Eric Holcomb has signed an executive order requiring Hoosiers to look for work if they want to keep their state unemployment benefits. As expected, the Governor reinstated the work search requirement yesterday, in which Hoosiers who are on unemployment will have to actively look for a job, be available for work, and take part in employment counseling, if necessary. The state waived the work-search requirement last March when unemployment in the state began to spike due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) will require applicants to complete a weekly work search report starting June 1. DWD will notify those affected about the changes to give them time to prepare.
