William “Bill” R. Brown, 86, of Greensburg, Indiana passed away January 31st, 2025. He was born June 15th, 1938, at home in Shelbyville, Indiana, the son of Faye (Hilt) Kuhn and Basil Brown. Bill graduated from Greensburg High School in 1956. He met his eternal love, Carolyn Hatch, in 1956 at a root beer stand in Versailles, Indiana where he left her a large tip to try and impress her. They married June 25th, 1960, and spent over 64 wonderful years together. Bill worked at Cummins Engine for 17 years before starting his career at Tom Sibbitt Chevrolet-Cadillac in Greensburg. Bill spent 28 years at Sibbitt’s as the General Manager where he met a lot of interesting people and formed many relationships with his clients. He was known for his honesty and integrity going over and above for his customers. He received the Service of Excellence award from Chevrolet numerous times resulting in many trips to other countries.
Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather as family was the most important thing to him. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons play Pirate sports following them all over the region for football, cross-country, basketball, and track events. He continued to follow them through their college years. Through the years Bill coached Tiger Sharks swim team and served the Greensburg United Methodist Church in several different capacities including Sunday School teacher, UMYF leader, Boy Scout leader, administrative board and finance committee. He was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying trapping, fishing and mowing his lawn. He also played a major part in building his family’s forever home.
He is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn and their two children, Barry (Libby) Brown of Pendelton Indiana, and Terri (Darren) Evans of Greensburg, Indiana. He is also survived by two grandsons, Jacob (Krista) Evans of Columbus, Indiana and Colin (Breanna) Evans of Batesville, Indiana. He also has one great grandson, Fintan Evans. He is also survived by his brother Randy Brown of Louisville, Kentucky, sister-in-law Pat Coker of Bushnell, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Haehl Kuhn, brother Gene Brown, mother-in-law Dorothea Cromer, and brother-in-law Bud Coker.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Greensburg United Methodist Church in Greensburg, Indiana on Friday, February 7th, 2025, from 11 AM until the time of the Funeral at 1PM. The Reverend Ted Chalk officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greensburg United Methodist Church, Champions of Youth, or a charity of the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
