In a back and forth game, Franklin County came out on top in their first conference game at East Central Monday Night (4-5) 7-5.
Brant Ertel started on the mound for FC, going 4 2/3 innings, striking out 8 batters. Coming in relief was older brother Garrett Ertel, who pitched the remainder of the game and recorded the win on the mound.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the 4th, EC tied it in the bottom half and eventually took the lead heading to the last inning. In the 7th, the Wildcats plated 2 runs to take a 4-3 lead, only to see the Trojans again tie the game with a run in the bottom of the 7th. In the 8th, FC scored 3 runs in the top before getting out of a jam with the tying run on 2nd base to end the game.
Offensively, FC was led by Remy Watters with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Brant Ertel also had a pair of hits including a double. 6 different Wildcats recorded a hit in the game.
FC will play host to East Central on Thursday with a 5:30 start.
