What to do if you see downed lines

Gusty winds through the overnight hours caused small power outages throughout southeastern Indiana late Sunday night into the early morning hours of Monday. Decatur County REMC has some helpful tips should your encounter downed lines while driving.

Since ice storms, severe weather, straight-line winds, and car accidents can cause downed power lines in the winter. You should call 911 or the power company immediately to report fallen power lines. Stay away from downed lines to avoid injury or death. Do not drive over or try to move downed lines. And if you are in your care, stay in the car. Your car will act as a ground and you will be safer in the car. Wait in the vehicle for emergency personnel to come to help you.
