Westport man arrested following high speed pursuit

Scott County, In. — A report from the Indiana State Police says a Westport man was arrested following a pursuit on I-65 in Jefferson County Thursday.

Troopers responded to reports of a reckless driver around 2 p.m. Callers told police there were passengers were hanging out of the windows and displaying offensive gestures to other motorists.

When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Paul Clinton Barger, 27, he sped away. Barger then evaded police by making unsafe lane changes and passes in the emergency lane.

After taking the Memphis exit, Barger attempted to reenter the interstate when he crashed and overturned.

Barger has been charged with resisting with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, possession of a legend drug, operating while intoxicated with endangerment and reckless driving.

Indiana State Police, Austin Police Department, Scottsburg Police Department, Scott County EMS and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
