Westport investigation leads to sentencing North of the Border

Westport, IN — A child exploitation investigation that began in Westport has resulted in a Canadian man pleading guilty to a child luring charge.

According to the Westport Police Department and Drumheller Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Westport Town Marshal Joe Talkington began investigating incidents involving a man having sexually explicit conversations with a 16-year-old victim.

The Mounties worked with Talkington, Decatur County Child Services, Homeland Security, and ICE to identify and arrest 45-year-old Shawn Albrecht at his home in the western Canadian province of Alberta back in January.

Albrecht was recently sentenced to two years behind bars and three years probation upon his release from prison.

He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and will have to register as a sex offender when he gets out of jail.

Other charges against Albrecht – including making sexually explicit material available to someone under 18, possession of child pornography, and accessing child pornography – were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
