Batesville High School girls and boys Cross Country teams were up early Saturday morning to compete at the 43rd East Central Invitational.  This year because of the new rules with numbers per race, they needed to split the two divisions into 4 different races. Batesville was in the first division and competed in the first two races of the morning.  It was a change for the athletes to race in weather with low humidity and under 70 degree weather, but it was definitely welcomed.  Although Batesville just raced two days prior at County, almost all ran personal bests for the season and several for their career.

Both the boys and the girls teams were crowned the meet champions for the Division 1 race of 6 teams with the girls scoring 28 points to 2nd place Taylor’s 55 points.  The boys beat the field by 50 points with a score of 21 points with East Central coming in 2nd at 71 points.  The Batesville uniform was also the first to cross the finish line in both races as Ava Hanson and Ean Loichinger led the way for the Bulldogs and were named the individual champions.  Ava sprinted into the finish line about 14 seconds in front of 2nd place finisher Rachel Campbell of East Central.  Ava just missed breaking into the 19’s as she crossed at 20:01. Sophomore Sophie Myers ran a career personal best and placed 3rd (20:45), then Batesville flooded the line finishing 7-11 places. This group was led by Maria Lopez (21:05) with Madison Rahschulte (21:14), Megan Allgeier (21:33), Lily Pinckley (21:40) and Trysta Vierling (21:55) following.

For the boys, Ean Loichinger took command from the very beginning of the race and never looked back, racing into the finish line just under 17 at 16:59.  The Bulldogs then took the next two spots as Benjamin Moster was just 5 second behind at 17:04, followed by Adam Hollowell (17:28). The Dogs had two more in the top 10 and they were Daren Smith (18:01), 6th and Eli Loichinger (18:17) in 9th.  Also earning awards by placing in the top 20 were Nathan Villani in 13th and Will Nuhring in 19th. Way to go Bulldogs!

On the reserve side Batesville girls dominated as all runners took the first spots 1-6, scoring the magical 15 points.  They were led by Carley Pride (23:35) who was then followed by Katie Olsen, Ella Moster, Sarah Ripperger, Jada Eisert and Hope Kroen.

The Boys also captured first place by just 5 points to the East Central Trojans 25-30.  The boys were led by Kyler Daulton (19:11) with Landon Gutzwiller right behind him in 2nd.  Dillon Murray took 5th, Luke Nuhring, 8th, Sean Callahan, 9th and Elliott Mertz 12th.  Way to go Dogs!

Personal Bests for the morning were Sophie Myers, Megan Allgeier, Ella Moster and Landon Gutzwiller.  Awesome job!

The Bulldogs get to put in a good week of training and will compete again next Saturday as they will travel to Ben Davis High School for their Invitational and will get to compete against some tough 5A Indianapolis teams.  Good Luck Dogs!

The Jac-Cen-Del Boys Soccer team got a huge 2-0 victory against The Indy Lutheran Saints.

This was a very important game for us. Indianapolis Lutheran is the team that defeated us 1-0 in last year’s Semi-State. We were fortunate enough to get them on our regular-season schedule this year. Both teams were ranked in the top 5 coming into the game so we felt it was going to be a good gauge of where we stood in 1A Soccer. We were able to walk away with a 2-0 victory on Saturday Afternoon and get a little revenger for that Semi-State loss.

We were really fortunate to get to halftime with a 1-0 lead. The wind was blowing in our defenses face the entirety of the half and really helped keep the ball in front of our goal. Nathan Hoffman did an excellent job in goal coming up with some key saves. With less than 5 to go we awarded a free-kick that Morgan Sutton used to set us up for a nice goal by Jacob Jines. In the second half, we were able to put a lot more pressure on Lutheran and Jacob finished off a beautiful shot from outside the 18. We had a few more good opportunities to add another goal but Lutheran kept us out for the rest of the half.

Hopefully, this win gets us heading in the right direction. We have struggled a bit recently getting motivated for games. We looked a lot different in this one and I hope that continues.

The North Decatur Girls Golf team traveled to Grand Oaks Golf Club to face East Central. The team shot a 258 for the round, falling to East Central’s 247.

Southwestern-Hanover took top team honors with a score of 405. Shawe Memorial was 2nd with 449, Switzerland County 3rd with 451, and Milan 4th with 522.

The top six individuals made up the All-Conference team and consisted of Belle Crawford – Southwestern-Hanover 81; Ellie Foley – Southwestern-Hanover 88; Kira Wells – Shawe Memorial 93; Hailey Hines – Switzerland County 98; Tracy McKittrick – Jac-Cen-Del 101; and Lily Williams – Switzerland County 111.
