Wanda J. Barrett, 81, of Aurora, Indiana passed away on Tuesday May 3, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Wanda was born on August 23, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was married for forty-four years to her husband, Eugene Barrett, who preceded her in death. Wanda was also preceded in death by her mother, Edith Greene; father, Charles Fraasman; brother Charles Greene; brothers-in-law, Charles Walston and John Davis. Wanda is survived by her daughters, Regina Harris and Christina (Bruce) Smith; son-in-law, Gary (William Records) Harris; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Matthew) Prendergast, Brandon Smith, Drew Smith; great grandchildren, Barrett Prendergast, Leah, Elliana, and Theodore Harvey; sister, Evelyn Davis; brother, Charles (Donna) Fraasman; sisters-in-law, Sue Walston and Mary Carter; brother-in-law, Gary (Karen) Leasure. She also had many other loved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Wanda spent forty years caregiving for children in the Aurora area through a daycare and pre-school she ran from her home. Wanda always spoke highly of the families she worked for and truly loved all of ‘her kids.’ She was a former co-owner of Creative Castings, a crafts and painting store in Aurora, Indiana. Wanda was an Eagle member, Girl Scout leader, and a cake decorator for many holidays, birthdays, and weddings. She was known for her extravagant Halloween displays, as this was her favorite time of year. Wanda enjoyed attending car shows with her husband and shelling on the beach during annual family vacations. She had a love for St. Augustine, Florida as well as relaxing at her home in the woods. Wanda was active in helping to raise her granddaughter, MacKenzie, and adored her dogs and other animals. She was a consistent, quiet, and tender presence in the lives of her loved ones. Wanda was appreciated for her ability to teach, tell engaging stories, host and feed her guests, play endless games, inspire creativity and imagination, speak her mind, and be genuinely present during quality time with family.
Wanda expressed a desire for a Celebration of Life at the time of her passing. She loved to cook and be surrounded by loved ones. Per her request, her family will be hosting a gathering on June 11, 2022 at Lawrenceburg Event Center located at 91 Walnut Street, Lawrenceburg, IN. 47025, starting at 5:00 pm. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm, followed by dessert, music, and memories shared. Wanda’s family would like to invite anyone who knew or loved her to attend, enjoy food and friends, and share stories in her honor.
