Virgil C. Laaker, 86, Dillsboro

           Virgil Clifford Laaker of Dillsboro passed away at the age of 86 at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg on Sunday, August 28, 2022.  Virgil was born on Monday, July 6, 1936 in Dillsboro, Indiana, son of Clifford and Rosa (nee Kuhlman) Laaker. Virgil married his loving wife Donna (nee Naegele) Laaker on June 4, 1955 and she preceded him in death on April 1, 2018. Virgil worked in the maintenance department for the Fernald and later for Kaiser Chemical. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat. Virgil attended the one room schoolhouse in Farmers Retreat for 1st – 8th grade. He enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league, working puzzles, and worked at the Dillsboro Health Resort. He loved being outdoors and could often times be found gardening, mowing grass, or working on his father’s farm. He was an avid fan of the Bengals and Reds.

Virgil will be missed by his son Mark Laaker (Connie) of Dillsboro, daughter Debra “Debbie” Holland (Michael) of Dillsboro, sister Esther Goldfuss of Cincinnati, Ohio, niece Karen Beatty of Dillsboro, and grandchildren Chris Holland (Rhonda), Bryan Holland (Tiffany), Johnathan Laaker (Erica), Stephanie Courter (Steve), and David Laaker.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Rosa Laaker, wife Donna Laaker, sisters Ruth Hessell and Verna Beatty.

Family and friends may gather in remembering Virgil from 10am – 12pm Thursday, September 1, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat. A service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Virgil to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat, Oakdale Cemetery, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
