Victim in Deadly Three-Vehicle Wreck Identified

(West Harrison, IN) – We now the name of the person killed in a fiery three vehicle crash in West Harrison Tuesday afternoon.

Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry says 59-year-old Barbara Nelson died when her car overturned and caught fire after colliding with two other vehicles on Harrison-Brookville Road near Johnson Fork Road.

The other two drivers – 18-year-old Ethan Grubbs of Batesville and 65-year-old Tab Prater of West Harrison – were extricated from their vehicles and taken to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nelson died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police indicates Nelson was driving east on Harrison-Brookville Road at a high rate of speed, went left of center striking Grubbs’ vehicle and then hitting Prater’s vehicle. Nelson’s car then overturned and caught fire.

In addition to the ISP Crash Reconstruction Team, sheriffs deputies received assistance from the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office, Harrison (Ohio) Fire/EMS and the New Trenton Fire Department.
