** UPDATED SERVICE ARRANGEMENTS**
Mary Thomas “Tommye” (Decker) Ashley, 96, of Milan, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Ripley Crossing. Tommye was born on Wednesday, March 23, 1927, in Axtel, Kentucky; daughter of Daniel and Ada (Poole) Decker. Tommye married the love of her life, Charlie D. Ashley on November 2, 1946, and he preceded her on February 17, 1988. Tommye worked at Damon’s Grocery and Jewett’s Grocery Store, then later worked in the cafeteria at Dillsboro School. Mary was a former member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Dillsboro Baptist Church. Tommye enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her loving family and friends.
Tommye will be missed by her sons Charles (Donna) Ashley of Aurora and Jerry (Lisa) Ashley of Smithton, Illinois; 5 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Tommye was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Ashley and siblings Amy Decker, Alpha Ramsey, Adam Decker, Ambers Decker, Alma Jeffries, Daisy Powell, Eve Combs, Frank Decker, Beulah Boles, and William Decker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been Tommye’s 97th birthday from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. A service will follow at 12:00 PM with Kathy Englehart officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Tommye to the Dillsboro Emergency Unit.
