UPDATE: Woman cutting grass hit by truck and killed

SUNMAN, IN — The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the people involved in Friday afternoon’s deadly accident in which a woman mowing grass was killed when a truck went off North Dearborn Road.

Sheriff Shane McHenry says a truck driven by 74-year-old Lester Cash of Sunman was westbound on North Dearborn when his truck went off the right side of the road and fatally struck 70-year-old Rita Hartman, also of Sunman.

Hartman was operating a push mower in her yard near the roadway.

Cash remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing.

The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by an Indiana State Police crash reconstructionist and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.

The Sunman Fire Department and Sunman EMS also responded to the scene.

SUNMAN, IN — A 70-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a truck while cutting grass in the area of 11170 North Dearborn Road Friday afternoon.

Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry said in a press release that deputies arriving at the scene around 1 pm learned that a 74-year-old man driving a 2017 Ford truck was traveling west on North Dearborn Road when he went off the right side of the road and fatally struck the woman who was operating a push mower near the road.

The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The identities of those involved have not been released.
