UPDATE: Two juveniles suffer burns, smoke inhalation in overnight house fire

Ripley County, IN — Two juveniles were taken to Margaret Mary Health for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation after a large fire destroyed a home near Osgood overnight (pictured).

It happened on the 1,000 block of West County Road 500 North.

The conditions of the juveniles are not available.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found large flames which forced crews to take up defensive firefighting tactics.

There were also concerns about the structural stability of the house.

Water used to fight the blaze came from a pond on the property along with tanker shuttles.

A number of area fire departments – including Osgood, Napoleon, Versailles, Delaware Township, Milan, Otter Creek (Holton), New Marion, and Aurora – plus the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Ripley County EMS, and Duke Energy responded.

The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department provided coverage for Versailles, and the New Point Volunteer Fire Department was put on standby.

A damage estimate is not available but the home is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Eight fire departments – Osgood, Napoleon, Versailles, Delaware Township, Milan, Otter Creek (Holton), New Marion, and Aurora – plus Ripley County EMS responded.

There’s no word if anyone was injured or what ignited the fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
