(Franklin County, IN) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has released more information into a semi crash on  that happened on U.S. 52 near Little Cedar Road last Thursday morning when snow left behind wet roads.

Investigators determined that the semi driver, 59-year-old Kenneth A. Flatter from Hollansburg, Ohio, was westbound on 52 near Cedar Grove and was going too fast for the wet road conditions.

His rig went off the right side of the road and rolled onto its passenger side.

Investigators determined the semi was hauling Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN), which is an agricultural fertilizer. The tanker’s load leaked into a ditch, which prompted deputies to call in the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and a spill response team.

The incident caused U.S. 52 to be shut down for about six hours on Thursday.

In addition to IDEM, Franklin County deputies received assistance at the scene from the Brookville Fire Department.
