(Ripley County, IN) – A woman is dead and five others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday on U.S. 421 near County Road 700 South.
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says a white 2011 Toyota Highlander was southbound on 421 when the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck in the passenger side by a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country.
A passenger in the Highlander, 34-year-old Ashley Hunger of Versailles, was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County EMS.
The drivers, Zachery Richardson and Carol Austin – both 30-year-old Versailles residents – and three juveniles were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Versailles and Osgood police departments, Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Officers, Versailles Fire Rescue, the New Marion Fire Department, Ripley County EMS (Versailles/Milan) and Sunman Rescue 20.

(Ripley County, IN) – Six people were injured in a serious multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 421 south of Versailles Tuesday evening.
One of the victims was ejected from a vehicle while five others had to be extricated.
421 was shut down near County Road 700 South during the rescue operation, cleanup and investigation.
Several agencies responded, including the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, the Versailles, New Marion and Batesville fire departments and rescue units, Ripley County EMS and Sunman Rescue 20.
The names of the victims and their conditions were not available.
