Two dogs perish in Lake McCoy house fire

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, IN — Greensburg firefighters responded to a house fire at 4408 East Sunny Lane at Lake McCoy around 9:15 Saturday morning.

Crews arrived and found heavy fire and smoke showing.

There were reports of people in the home and an interior search was started but called off because of the fire conditions.

Firefighters were then ordered outside to use defensive tactics to battle the blaze.

Neighbors notified the renters about the fire and it was confirmed that no one was home

However, two dogs inside the house died.

There were no human injuries reported.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Greensburg Fire received assistance at the scene from Decatur County EMS, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, the New Point, and Clarksburg volunteer fire departments, Batesville Fire & EMS, the Red Cross, Duke Energy, and Decatur County Emergency Communications.
